The Mother Hass Tree

The Mother Hass Tree

Planted in 1926 in La Habra Heights, California by Rudolf Hass, a mailman whose 'hobby' was growing different varities of Avocados.

Called the Mother Hass Tree because all Hass Trees worldwide can trace their lineage back to this tree.

Rancho Cielo was fortunate enough to get  1st generation budwood from the Mother Hass Tree in the early 90's before she succumbed to root rot in 2002 at 76 years old.

She had a mind of her own and knew what kind of fruit she wanted to produce.  She rejected a grafting attempt to Fuerte variety by Rudolf and produced the high quality, rich and creamy Hass avocado that we all now enjoy.   Rudolf also discovered this was his children's favorite avocado variety.
